Turnitin Introduces AI Indicator to Detect ChatGPT and Other AI-Generated Writing

Turnitin, the leading platform used by universities and schools to check for plagiarism, has integrated a way to detect AI-generated content, including the content generated by ChatGPT. This means that teachers can ensure student work is thoroughly checked for plagiarism and will not be accepted if generated through AI. However, their research team has been doing experiments to test the ability of Turnitin to detect prompts from ChatGPT, one of the advanced AI writing tools available online. The experiments showed that Turnitin is not yet advanced enough to detect the writing generated by ChatGPT and other AI tools. Nonetheless, Turnitin's Originality product has been enhanced to check for AI-generated and AI-assisted writing, and it now includes an AI indicator in its reports. This indicator will help educators track and detect plagiarism and AI-generated content better.
