Reddit to Charge AI Companies for Accessing its API and Post Archives

Reddit is now requiring businesses and AI companies to pay for accessing its post archives and API for training their large language models. This move will allow Reddit to generate revenue from its extensive databank. Reddit founder and CEO, Steve Huffman, believes that the data present on the platform is valuable and should not be given away for free to some of the largest companies in the world. Users can now access Reddit’s archives and subreddits for a price. Reddit has announced that AI developers will be charged a fee to gain access to its API and databanks. These archives have mostly been human-generated and have benefited AI and LLMs previously for training their systems.
