Daft Punk cites fear of AI as reason for breakup: Thomas Bangalter reveals in new interview

In a recent interview with BBC, ex-Daft Punk member Thomas Bangalter revealed that fear of artificial intelligence played a part in the band's breakup. When they first burst onto the scene, their robot personas blurred the line between reality and fiction. However, the blurring of the line between human and machine in recent years made their album and title track "Human After All" feel more like a rallying cry than a sci-fi-tinged house hit. Bangalter revealed that he is "terrified of the nature of the relationship between machines and ourselves." Daft Punk's robot personas were used to express something that a machine cannot feel, but a human can. The timing of their 2021 breakup was intentional, as Bangalter claimed that "the last thing I would want to be, in the world we live in, in 2023, is a robot."
