BuzzFeed AI Outperforms Humans in Reader Engagement by 40%

BuzzFeed announced that its AI-facilitated quizzes are outperforming traditional quizzes in terms of reader engagement by 40%. This comes after the company shut down its Pulitzer-winning news division and laid off 120 employees. BuzzFeed experimented with AI to generate SEO-driven travel guides before moving on to quizzes and is now projecting high earnings thanks to AI investment. However, BuzzFeed admits its AI-generated quizzes are currently "glorified Mad Libs" and far from the personalized, creative content promised by CEO Jonah Peretti. Other media outlets, including CNET and Men's Health, have also published AI-generated articles.
