UK Regulator Issues Preliminary Enforcement Notice to Snapchat Over Privacy Concerns of AI Chatbot

The UK's Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has taken action against Snapchat's parent company, Snap, by issuing a preliminary enforcement notice. The notice addresses privacy concerns associated with Snap's AI chatbot, "My AI." While no breach has been found, the ICO is concerned about Snap's compliance with data protection regulations. If a final enforcement notice is issued, Snap could face a hefty fine and be required to halt data processing linked to the My AI feature. The ICO's investigation revealed that Snap's initial risk assessment did not adequately evaluate data protection risks, especially related to minors. Snap has collaborated with Microsoft to incorporate advertisements into My AI.
