Large AI Models Have Promise and Peril, Warns Report

Since the launch of Openai’s Chatgpt, which has more knowledge than any human, the obsession with generative AI models has grown rapidly. However, experts are growing concerned that the models are being developed too quickly. Whilst generative AI models, such as large language models, bring vast promise, governments and prominent voices are now calling for the development of AI to be paused. To understand where this technology came from, how it works and what its limits are, it depends largely on the coalescence of vast data sets, algorithms capable of learning and computational power. Forecasters predict the stream of high-quality data to dry up before 2026, which will limit the opportunities for these models to improve.
