ChatGPT outperforms physicians in providing high-quality, empathetic responses to patient questions, according to new study

In a new study published in JAMA Internal Medicine, ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence assistant, was found to have provided higher quality and more empathetic responses to patient questions than physicians. The study compared responses from physicians and ChatGPT to real-world health questions and found that a panel of licensed healthcare professionals preferred ChatGPT’s responses 79% of the time. The study suggests that while AI won't replace doctors, physicians working with technologies like ChatGPT could revolutionize medicine. The AI assistant was tested in a healthcare setting using a diverse set of patient medical questions and accompanying answers from licensed medical professionals on social media platform Reddit. ChatGPT was preferred due to its nuanced and accurate information which often addressed more aspects of the patient’s questions than physician responses.
