Baidu Research AI Tool Creates More Stable mRNA Vaccines

An AI tool developed by Baidu Research in California optimizes gene sequences found in mRNA vaccines to create jabs that have greater potency and stability than current vaccines. The AI software designs mRNA sequences with more intricate shapes and structures than traditional vaccines, enabling the genetic material to persist longer than usual and produce more antigens to create a larger antibody response. This improved protection against vaccine degradation means vaccines created by the AI tool could eliminate the need for cold-chain equipment to handle SARS-CoV-2 jabs. The LinearDesign tool takes a few minutes to run on a desktop computer, and has already been used to optimize the AI-enhanced StemiRNA SARS-CoV-2 vaccine approved for emergency use in Laos last year.
