Video game voiceover actors are concerned that the proliferation of generative AI systems and the rise in ways to modify voice actors' tones could put their jobs "on the chopping block." The actors fear that their shelf life will be shortened if their voices are stored in source material without their consent or are reproduced using AI. The actors are also concerned that their syllables are being used online for malicious purposes and that AI will allow for a cheaper quality of game at the expense of their reputation. If a synthetic version of an actor's voice were to become prevalent, it could make it tougher for struggling actors to make it in the industry.
