A Japanese consortium led by NTT has received government support to develop mass-production infrastructure for optical chiplets by 2028. This technology will replace copper connections with light beams, reducing energy costs and heat generation. The project, funded by ¥45.2 billion, aims for a tenfold manufacturing productivity increase. Successful implementation may ease power constraints on AI deployment in data centers.
