AI-generated books flood Amazon's marketplace causing concerns over credibility
As AI-generated content becomes more prevalent, human authors are struggling to compete with books written by AI flooding Amazon's marketplace. These books are often generated on niche topics and come with suspicious five-star reviews. Furthermore, AI-generated content is not limited to books and can be found on the internet at large. With AI text generators regurgitating each other's content, it can be difficult to trace back to the original source and determine what is true. Online publications like CNET and BuzzFeed are also using AI to generate content, often resulting in dubiously-sourced and redundant information. While some publishers are hiding their use of AI, others are advertising it openly. According to Josh Jaffe, president of San Francisco-based online publisher Ingenio, AI content creation "helps by leveraging generative AI tools" to create content that wouldn't exist otherwise. However, the flooding of AI-generated content could lead to mass confusion and misinformation, making it difficult for consumers to discern what is trustworthy and accurate.
