The US military has announced the formation of the Autonomous Warfare Command (AutoWarCom) to enhance drone and robot capabilities across all branches. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth revealed this initiative during a speech at Marine Corps Base Quantico. A four-star officer will lead AutoWarCom, which aims to expedite technological advancements in warfare. The command will operate independently, unlike most existing commands. An interim project, Project Agincourt, will be implemented until full operations begin within a year. The Pentagon's budget proposal for fiscal 2027 allocates approximately $54.6 billion to the initiative. Security experts voice concerns over unrestricted military AI development. Notably, the last new command was the US Space Command in 2019.
