Moderators discovered the use of AI-generated accounts designed to manipulate user opinions without consent. Users, unaware, engaged with bots posing as real people. The university received a formal ethics complaint but allowed the study to proceed. Reddit locked the associated accounts while some controversial comments were archived. Ethical concerns dominate discussions, especially regarding informed consent. The situation raises doubts about user trust and the authenticity of online interactions.
