In an interview with Reuters, Bill Gates spoke out against recent calls to pause development of AI, saying it would be difficult to do so on a global scale and advocated for finding ways to use and embrace it to better society, adding that certain areas need to be identified as tricky. In his blog, Gates explored how AI could benefit areas like global healthcare by freeing up time for workers. Gates’ comments follow a recent letter from Elon Musk and others calling for a six-month pause, but Gates disagrees with the requested pause, saying it won’t stop the challenges the technology faces, but the key is to focus on making it better. Italy moved to temporarily block access to ChatGPT last week and will investigate the company behind it.
