AMD and DOE Launch $1 Billion AI Supercomputer Initiative

AMD has partnered with the US Department of Energy for a $1 billion project to develop two advanced supercomputers at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Named Lux and Discovery, these machines will enhance AI and scientific research capabilities. Lux is set to start operating in early 2026, followed by Discovery in 2029. Both systems will build on the legacy of the Frontier supercomputer.
