Meta Announces Custom Chip for AI and Next-Gen Data Center Design

Meta has announced its first custom chip, MTIA, designed for AI models and targeted at inference workloads. With a combination of MTIA chips and GPUs, the company believes it can deliver better performance, decreased latency, and greater efficiency for each workload. The MTIA chip is expected to be launched in 2025. Meta is also introducing a new ASIC specifically designed for video transcoding that will help bring AI-made content and AR/VR-specific content to the company's apps. Additionally, Meta is working on a next-generation data center designed to be AI-optimized, faster, and more cost-effective to build.
