AI giants OpenAI, Google DeepMind and Anthropic have committed to giving the UK priority access to their models for AI safety research, according to UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. The move comes after the UK government's announcement last week that it plans to host a global AI safety summit this autumn. The companies offered to provide early or priority access to their AI models for research and safety purposes and support the evaluation of AI systems to better understand opportunities and risks. Sunak has promised £100m for an expert AI safety taskforce devoted to AI foundation models, the government said and is proposing to make the UK the "geographical home" of global regulation of AI safety.
