AI chatbots to teach kids literacy within 18 months, says Bill Gates
According to TechForge Media, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates believes that AI chatbots like OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Bard will be able to improve children's literacy skills within the next 18 months. In a fireside chat at the ASU+GSV Summit in San Diego, Gates stated that he is confident that AI chatbots will be able to tutor children to the same level as humans, since the bots are already on par with human intelligence on some standardised tests. However, Gates admits that the bots will need to improve before they can become a viable tutor by learning to read and reproduce human language in a more personalised manner. If the technology improves, this could make private tutoring more widely accessible to students who otherwise cannot afford it.
