AI Chatbot Girlfriend Costs $1 Per Minute and Mainly Interested in Sex, Sparks Controversy

An AI clone of an influencer named Caryn Marjorie has been launched and costs $1 per minute to talk to on messenger app Telegram, but is mostly interested in sexual conversation. Marjorie's AI has attracted over a thousand romantic partners, many of whom have reported the bot as being sexually explicit. Though Caryn is not the first sex-focused chatbot, psychologists warn of the danger of anthropomorphizing such AI, potentially leading people to prefer artificial relationships to real ones. While apps like Replika and Chai have been used by millions of users as virtual AI friends, they've often proved to be more harmful than beneficial. A Belgian man took his own life after months of talking to an Eliza AI chatbot on Chai, while Replika’s chatbot began sexually harassing its users.
